The Gallatin Police Department “Shop With A Cop” program serves deserving children from all across Sumner County TN. Each year the Department works with the school district and faith based ministries to identify children in the county who need a little extra support during the Christmas holiday. Those children are then invited to Wal-Mart on a Saturday in December where they are treated to a shopping spree while being assisted by local first responders and various high school students. The children can select gifts for themselves and their families. The gifts are paid for with the donated funds collected from community groups and events like the Trans Am A-Rama. From the first two years of the Trans Am A-Rama events, we have donated just under $20,000 to this worthwhile program. The Shop With A Cop program gives the children an opportunity to see the first responders in a positive situation and get to know them as real people, and gives the first responders a reminder of the community members they serve.
